Polybutylene Terephthalate (PBT)

Polybutylene Terephthalate (PBT)

PBT is a crystalline, high molecular weight polymer that has an excellent balance of properties and processing characteristics. Mold cycles are shorter and molding temperatures are lower than many engineering plastics because the material crystallizes rapidly. PBT is actually a type of polyester that is resistant to solvents, shrinks very little during forming, and is mechanically strong.

Common Uses:

  • Automotive Industry: windshield wiper covers, mirror housings, cowl vents, handles, fans, fuel system components, connectors, sensor housings, fuse boxes, actuator cases, power relays, switches, motor components, ignition system components
  • Electrical/Electronics Industry: connectors, sensor housings, chip sockets, terminal boards, coil bobbins, transformer insulation, switches, circuit breakers, motor end caps, brush holders, cable liners, and fiber optic buffer tubes.
  • Industrial Applications: fluorescent lamp bases, street lamp reflectors, pump housings and impellers, filter media, monofilaments, and packaging components
  • Consumer Industry: iron handles and bases, oven door handles, housings, motor brackets, and closure panels
